It was an all-day affair in Grand Island for the 12th annual Heartland Hoops Classic. The eight-game slate saw one upset. USA Today Super 25 No. 14 Wasatch Academy rolled to a 65-53 win over No. 13 Sunrise Christian Academy in the featured contest.

Here are World-Herald prep recruiting specialist Mike Sautter’s stars of the day:

Aurora’s Baylor Scheierman: He was unquestionably the brightest star on the day. Scheierman didn’t shoot the ball well in the Huskies’ 72-52 win over Cozad. The South Dakota State signee did just about everything else, scoring 19 points, grabbing 16 rebounds and dishing out 15 assists. He also added five steals and two blocked shots.

Riverside 72, Loomis 59: Riverside senior Joseph Bloom had maybe the best game of his career. He scored 22 of his game-high 31 the second half. The 6-foot-7 forward would be a strong asset to almost any team in the state. Bloom scored 31, grabbed 16 rebounds and had five blocked shots. Loomis senior Aaron Dow showed he has range beyond being a 6-foot-3 post player. Dow scored a team-high 25 points on 10 of 20 from the field and 2 of 4 from the 3-point arc.

BRLD 68, Auburn 52: A matchup of two high-powered sophomores lived up to the billing. BRLD guard Lucas Vogt was the best player on the court. Vogt scored 21 points, had eight rebounds, dished out four assists and was a menace defensively. Auburn’s Cam Binder had a slow start but finished with a team-high 21 points.

Omaha Skutt 71, Hastings Adams Central 50: Omaha Skutt junior Tyson Gordon did his best to match Scheierman’s triple-double. The 6-3 point guard scored 10 points, dished eight assists and hauled in seven rebounds. Adams Central junior Haggan Hilgendorf showed he has gained strength and developed his game. The 6-8 forward scored 17 points on 6 of 12 shooting, grabbed six rebounds and had three blocked shots. The game’s leading scorer was Skutt senior Jake Kudron with 22, who scored in a variety of ways.

GICC 52, North Bend Central 43: Grand Island Central Catholic senior Jack Goering scored 19 on 6 of 12 shooting. Goering scored 12 of his 19 in the third quarter. North Bend Central senior Tanner Wietfeld was the game’s leading scorer with 23 points, including 20 of his team’s 30 first-half points.

York 63, Bennington 43: York’s senior duo of Brady Danielson and Garrett Snodgrass led the Dukes to a comfortable win. Danielson had 19 first-half points — almost outscoring the Badgers’ 20. He finished with a game-high 26 points on 11 of 15 from the field. Snodgrass chipped in a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Hastings 45, Freeman 40: Freeman’s 2-3 zone limited Connor Creech’s scoring ability but the 6-3 junior knocked down the go-ahead 3-pointer with just over a minute to play. Creech then had the game-clinching rebound with four seconds left. He led the Tigers with seven boards.
